You might have heard us talking about the Serverless Database Backup feature, so what exactly is that?

Well, in a few words, it's a solution that was created to have you easily back up your databases if:

  • Your database size is larger than your server's free space, or

  • You don't have a dedicated server, or

  • You are on shared hosting, or

  • You are using cPanel, or

  • You want to just rapidly backup your database without connecting your server to SimpleBackups

How do we normally back up your databases?

Normally, you add your own server that has access to your database to SimpleBackups, then we back up your database using your own server and in this case, if your database is not publicly accessible, SimpleBackups does not need to be whitelisted.

The Role of the Serverless Database Backup Worker

It acts as your own server and does the job of securely backing up your database and uploading it to your remote storage without having you add your server.

If you decide to use the Serverless Database Backup option, you can add it by going to the backups page, creating a new backup, and clicking "Enable Remote Database Backups".

If your database is not publicly accessible (and usually this is the case), then you will need to whitelist the IP addresses of SimpleBackups to allow it to back up your database. We have created help articles to show you how to do so for:

If you need help whitelisting our IP addresses, let us know and we will be glad to help!
